Este blog es una portal ara publicar productos que hacemos como parches con serigrafía, chapitas y fanzines que pueden tener imágenes o textos hechos por ti o por alguien que tu conoces. Mientras que sabemos que estamos usando el arte e ideas de otras personas, no pensamos que es inapropiado por las siguientes razones. Una es que estamos en contra de las leyes de derechos de propiedad intelectual (incluyendo la propiedad creativa). Después de todo lxs artistas a través de la historia de la humanidad que hicieron arte para varios propósitos, existieron mucho antes de que el arte pudiera ser “adueñada” o “vendida”. Esto significa que por lo general nadie, ni el/la artista, había concebido la idea de restringir su uso y la re-apropiación de sus creaciones. Por ejemplo el arte rupestre, figuritas talladas en piedra de uso espiritual o el arte de pintarse el cuerpo para diferentes rituales.
En segundo lugar, no consideramos que estamos haciendo negocio de las contra-culturas. Nuestro propósito es promover la culturas punk, libertaria y del hazlo tu mismx (DIY). Hacemos esto a través de mantener los costos de producción bajos, vender barato o hacer trueke. En primera instancia, no pensamos que las ideas, el arte, la música, etc. debería ser convertida en propiedad porque esto implica que se va a convertir en una comodidad intercambiable dentro del mercado. Obviamente SI pedimos y recibimos dinero por nuestros productos pero esto es sólo una pequeña cantidad para ayudarnos a pagar los insumos y materiales. Desde que empezamos no hemos vendido en grandes cantidades y no hemos alcanzado para nada a recuperar el dinero que hemos invertido. Pero no nos importa porque como dice arriba nuestro propósito es aportar a nuestras contra-culturas y por eso lo que más disfrutamos es el proceso creativo y aprender cosas nuevas. Si en algún momento alcanzáramos hacer una ganancia, aunque sólo un poquito, sería algo extra que podríamos usar para nuestras necesidades básicas, pero NO es nuestro objetivo. Dependemos de otras weas desagradable como pegas temporales y otros trucos para salvarnos económicamente. Si pudiéramos conseguirnos materiales gratis y no tuviéramos necesidad de tener algo de dinero, además de mucho tiempo libre, entonces no pediríamos dinero ni cosas a cambio. Y en ocasiones hemos podido hacer esto para algunxs compas – hacer cosas para regalárselas. Sería bacan poder hacer esto todo el tiempo pero dentro de este sistema es difícil.
Por estas mismas razones no pensamos que “explotamos” artistas cuando usamos sus creaciones sin pedirles o que estamos “capitalizando” con el esfuerzo de lxs demás. Esto sería el caso si estuviéramos produciendo grandes cantidades y vendiendo caro, por ejemplo haciendo poleras de bandas populares y vendiéndolas por internet a 10 dolares a países ricos. Eso sería pa' la cagá. Además no usamos publicidad para rogar que nos compren y nos enfocamos en música independiente, conceptos no-comerciales y contra-sistema. Creemos que todo esto demuestra que no queremos cagar a nadie. Sólo queremos aportar a la cultura e ideologías que nos gustan y hacer las cosas que nos gusta como serigrafía y fanzines.
Entonces si eres integrante de alguna banda o artista que ha creado algunas de las imágenes o textos que hemos utilizado, puedes pedirnos que paremos, pero nos gustaría que primero consideres nuestro punto de vista y también que te eduques sobre los impactos de la implementación de derechos de propiedad intelectual.

To band members, artists and record producers:

This blog is our portal to publicise products that we make such as patches, badges and zines that may have images or textzçs made by you or someone you know. While we realise that this means that we are using someone else´s artwork we see it as appropriate to do so for the following reasons. One is that we are against the enforcement of creative property rights. Afterall artists throughout history made art for various reasons and they existed before art could be “owned” and “sold”. This probably means that most of the time no-one, not even the artist, had conceived the idea of restricting the use and re-appropriation of their creations. Say for example cave paitings, prehistoric statuettes or body painting.
Secondly we do not consider that we are making a business out of counter-cultures. Our purpose is to promote punk, anarchism and DIY cultures and not make a profit. We do this by keeping production costs low and selling cheaply. In the first instance, we don´t think that ideas, art, music, etc. should be turned into property at all as this necessarily means it will become an exchangable commodity. Obviously we DO ask for and end up receiving money for our products but this is merely a small return to pay for materials. Since we started making these things we haven´t sold much and haven´t even come close to recovering the money we´ve invested in materials and tools. But we don´t care, we don´t want to sell lots, mostly we enjoy the creative process and learning new things. If at some point we were able to make any money at all it would be a bonus, even a small amount that we could use to start buy basics or beer or whatever, but it´s not our objective, (we rely on other shitty, temporary jobs and and other tricks and the such for our economic needs). If we had ways of getting materials for free and didn´t have to work elsewhere to survive plus lots of spare time then we wouldn´t ask for any money at all. And on ocassions we have been able to so this for loved-ones - to make things to give as gifts. It would be great to be able to this all the time to lots of people but our economic situation doesn´t allow for this, as is the case for most people.
For the same reasons we don´t think that we “exploit” artists by using their art without consent to make money, or “capitalising” on others efforts. This would be the case if we were making large quantities of bootleg t-shirts of some popular crust band and selling them on the net for $US 10 to kids from rich countries. That would definitely be fucked up for so many reasons. That´s why we try to offer things at the lowest cost possible or swap stuff so that our things are accessible to everyone who is interested. Also we think that the absence of advertising material to encourage people to buy further demonstrates that we don´t wish to rip anyone off. Really, we mostly want to help the growth of the culture and ideas that we love and do things that we love like silk-screen printing and making zines.
So, if you are a band member or artist that has made images that we have used, you have every right to ask to stop using them, but please consider the above opinions and also, consider informing yourself about the negative implications of creative or intellectual property rights.

¡ ?¡QUIéNES SOMOS?!?
Who are We?!?

También esto es un intento de autogestión para dar y recibir o difundir cultura e ideas y recaudar, aunke sea un poco para continuar haciéndolo. Ofrecemos material de bandas que nos gustan y también de ideas en forma de imagenes y textos contra-cultural, contestarios y libertarios. Algo para hacernos pensar.
Eso dicho, no nos limitamos a enviar nuestro material a otros lugares si algo les interesa.
La gran mayoría de las cosas son hecha por nosotrxs o por nuestrxs amigxs, y siguiendo con el espiritú del hazlo tu mismo, todo es ofrecido a bajo costo o con trueke.
En un mediano plazo esperamos crear una editorial para crear nuevos textos y re-editar algunos antiguos que nos llaman la atención y también sacar CDs de bandas punks para ofrecerlos a bajo costo, en especial aquellos que sólo son editados en vinilos.
English:
La Tiendita DIY is a new distro based in Puerto Varas, southern Chile. We created it to see if we could successfully use the internet to distribute our material. Our main objective is to distribute material that is more dificult to find around these parts, as it´s really lacking.
This is also a attempt at self-management in order to give and take or spread culture and ideas and recieve, whatever contributions can come our way to keep on going. We offer material of bands that we like and also of ideas in the form of counter-cultural images and texts that question and spread anarkist thought. Something to make us think.
All of that said, we can also mail material to other places if something interests you. Most of our material is made by us or our friends, and keeping with the spirit of DIY culture, everything is offered at a low cost or can be exchanged.
In the long term we want to set up a publishing group to create new texts and re-edit old ones we find interesting. Also we want to put out CD releases of punk bands to help spread their music at a lower cost, and especially that of record-loving bands in these non-recordplayer-having parts of the world.
All prices are in chilean currency. If you are interested in purchasing something write to us at latienditadiy@gmail.com. But to give you an idea of prices, everything except the body piercing jewellery cost 1 Euro or less and the body piercing jewellery cost around 3 Euros or less depending on the size.
